Britney Spears' concert in Israel is 'delaying' a leadership contest

When the date for Britney Spears' concert in Israel was set for 3rd July, fans were quick to get their hands on tickets for her one-night-only show as part of her upcoming world tour. Yet for the country's Labour party, the announcement of the pop star's first-ever Tel Aviv gig turned out to be seriously bad timing.
The political party was due to hold its primary election for party chairperson on that date, but according to The Times of Israel, the leadership vote has been pushed back a day to avoid competing with Britney taking to the stage in the city's Hayarkon Park. After all, the singer's Israeli fans have been waiting years to see their pop idol perform Oops I Did It Again in their homeland. 


A spokesperson for Labour party said the change in date made sense for logistical reasons. Speaking to the newspaper, he said the decision would “make it easier for people to reach polling stations". He added that there had also been “a difficulty in recruiting security guards” for the original chosen date.
